ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A suspect has been charged after a missing man was found dead in the Central West End.


The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said it received a call around 1 a.m. Wednesday from the University City Police Department for help regarding a missing persons case.


Officers were called to the 4200 block of Olive Street, where the phone of the man at the center of the missing person case was pinged. Upon arrival, officers found the man who had been shot in the torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

University City Police issued a press release stating that on Tuesday, they were notified of a missing person, 23-year-old Jardyn Walker, who was last seen delivering packages in the University City area. Walker was reported missing after he did not show up at the Amazon Hazelwood plant to ride home with his sister.


The University City Police said they were notified of a death investigation on the 4200 block of Washington, and state the car Walker was last seen driving was at the scene.


In a noon press conference, St. Louis police said that they believe the case could be connected to a call for shots fired from hours prior, in which a car was seen quickly leaving the area and was stopped at Boyle and Lindell. An officer saw that the person in the car had weapons, and they were arrested.

Wednesday afternoon, police announced that Jamaal Jones, 27, was charged with first-degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with evidence.


Charging documents state that a witness called 911 and identified Jones as the suspect. When officers found Jones, he reportedly admitted to firing the gun and made a statement about being “in fear for his life.” Police said when he was arrested, he had shell casings in his pocket.


Another witness said that the suspect and victim were at his apartment the night of the shooting, and he heard gunshots as the victim was leaving. The witness told officers he did not see Jones or Walker after hearing the gunshots.
